THE JUST LADY

A comical sight she cut,

The blind lady and her scale;

Yet not a snicker was heard,

Because behind her velvet robe,

Stood the powerful men she served.

She said she saw all,

Yet we knew she was blind.

Why did she carry a sword,

Yet she said she was kind?

Empowered by a social pact.

The will of those with strength

And the law to those without.

Like the ladies of the night,

She favoured men of might

The rest of us forced to call her just.
